I Tested 14 Beers and Attractants To Find The Best To Use In Slug And Snail Traps
I have used beer traps for years in the garden to help keep the slug population down. As long as you use them carefully, I have found they are an very safe and effective way to get rid of slugs without any pesticides or chemicals. But I have always wondered if the type of beer you use makes a difference. For example is non-alcoholic beer as good at attracting slugs as alcoholic beer? Does the style of taste of the beer have any effect? Are dark Stout or Porter type beers better, or perhaps IPA or Larger? The only way to find out was to test them, and that is exactly what I did.
After reading some very interesting research from Oregon State University that found raw bread dough was more attractive to slugs than beer, I also devised a way to make “liquid bread dough” and tested that against all the beers as well.
